The School Resource Unit within the Law Enforcement Division consists of a Sergeant and two Deputies who provide security and law enforcement service to the public schools in Liberty County. In addition to all traditional law enforcement functions, the members of the School Resource Unit also conduct truancy enforcement, present classroom and hands-on lessons to students and assist school administration in creating school safety and response plans. The members of the School Resource Unit provide instruction on topics including gun safety, bullying, the effects of drug use, the effects of alcohol use, driver safety and crime reporting. The School Resource Program operates under a contract between the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and Liberty County School Board.
In addition to normal school day duties, School Resource Deputies also provide security at home and away afterschool athletic events, as well as school sponsored field trips and the 21st Century Program. The ultimate goal of the School Resource Unit is to foster understanding and trust between young people in our communities and law enforcement.
