About

Liberty County was created from Gadsden County on December 15, 1855, and became the 32nd county formed in the state of Florida. The name was chosen to represent the sentiment of the people. The first Sheriff of Liberty County was Sheriff D.G. Harrell. There have since been 29 elected Sheriff’s in Liberty County.

The current Sheriff of Liberty County is Sheriff Walter “Buddy” Money.  Sheriff Money took office January 1st of 2021. 

Under the leadership of Sheriff Money, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office strives to be a safe community, where families and businesses thrive, while proudly serving our community with Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence.
